The four color rows
Color at the salon splits into two jobs. Full hair coloring and root touch-up add pigment to hair. Medium hair bleaching and hair bleaching remove color from hair. The amounts above come from Naver Place and the stylist confirms the final price, which depends on stylist level, length and condition.
The price list shows these rows next to the rest of the menu.
How hair color works
Permanent and demi-permanent color works by opening the outer layer of the hair so pigment can settle inside. Color can darken hair easily, but it can lighten only to a limited degree. To go much lighter than your natural shade, the hair must first be bleached.
Hair is measured in levels from very dark to very light. The stylist matches your starting level, the target level and the tone, then decides on one step or several. For first-time color, the process is usually simple. For hair that already carries color, it needs careful planning, because new color does not lift old color.
A skin and scalp check is also normal. If you have ever reacted to a color product, tell the stylist before the service begins.
Bleaching in stages
Bleach lifts pigment. Dark hair first turns reddish-orange, then orange, then yellow, then pale yellow. Each stage is a point where the stylist may stop or continue. The pale tones needed for pastels or ash shades usually require reaching the pale yellow stage, and that can take more than one session.
Two bleaching rows are on the menu, which reflect the amount of hair worked on. Ask the stylist which one applies. The bleach page and the double bleach page explain the process in more detail.
Tones and shades
Tone is the color cast of a shade, such as cool, warm or neutral. Cool tones lean blue, ash or violet. Warm tones lean gold, copper or red. Choosing a tone you like is as important as choosing a depth.
- Ash color and blue-black color for cool, subtle tones.
- Milk tea brown and tone-down color for soft, natural looks.
- Pastel pink and vivid fashion color for strong looks, which usually need bleaching first.
Maintenance: roots and gray
Lightness and tone also fade at different speeds. Cool shades fade faster than warm ones, and very pale shades can turn yellow if the hair is not cared for. Plan to return for a touch-up before the fade becomes obvious, not after. New growth shows as a line at the roots after several weeks. A root touch-up renews only that part, which keeps the length from being colored again and again. Read the root touch-up page for timing, and the gray coverage page if you want to cover gray hair. The general page on hair color gives a wider overview.
Aftercare in general terms
Color fades with washing, heat and sun. A gentle shampoo, cooler water and less heat styling slow that. Bleached hair is drier and benefits from a conditioning treatment. The salon’s treatment services can be booked alongside color. Ask the stylist for advice that fits your result.
Sun, chlorine and hard water can all alter color. If you travel a lot during your trip, keep the hair covered in strong sun and rinse after swimming.
