What a root touch-up covers
Hair grows about a centimeter a month, though speed varies. When your color is lighter or different from your natural hair, a band of natural color appears at the scalp. A root touch-up colors that band to match the lengths. It does not re-dye the whole head.
It is the right service when your length is still the shade you like. If the lengths have faded or turned brassy, you need full hair coloring instead.
Why roots are done separately
Scalp heat makes hair color develop faster at the root. Color on the lengths develops more slowly. If a formula is applied evenly on a full head, the roots can come out brighter than the ends. Stylists therefore apply the root formula first, often waiting before blending toward the mid-lengths.
Applying a new dye over old dye again and again also builds up pigment. Limiting the touch-up to new growth avoids dark, heavy ends.
Roots after bleaching
If you lightened your hair, the roots grow in dark and the contrast is high. Lifting only the new growth is a precise job, because the stylist must stop at the old lightened edge so the older hair is not lifted twice. The menu lists bleaching separately. If your roots need lightening and not color, the stylist tells you which listed row applies. See bleach for how that works.

How often to come
A visible line usually appears after about four to eight weeks, depending on the contrast between your natural color and your shade. High contrast, such as blond over black, shows sooner. Close tones last longer. Gray roots tend to show faster too, as covered on the gray coverage page.
- Close to your natural shade: longer between visits.
- Light shade over dark roots: shorter interval.
- Fast-growing hair: shorter interval.
Bringing the right information
The stylist needs to match your existing color, not invent a new one. Bring the last formula or shade name if you know it, or a recent photo. If the previous color was done elsewhere, say so. State the date of your last touch-up. If you want the line to look softer, say you prefer a gradual blend rather than a hard line.
A short checklist before your touch-up
A little preparation helps the root work go smoothly and keeps the result even.
- Do not shampoo heavily right before the visit. A little natural oil protects the scalp.
- Avoid scratching or scrubbing the scalp the day before.
- Tell the stylist about any sensitivity, itching or stinging from past dye.
- Wear a top that is easy to cover, since dye can mark clothing.
Allow the time the stylist advises. Roots need processing time, and a rushed rinse leads to uneven color at the scalp.
Pricing in plain terms
The root touch-up row is ₩165,000. Length, stylist level and condition can adjust the quote. If your plan also needs toning of the mid-lengths, the stylist explains how that is priced under the listed full hair coloring row before starting. See the price list for all rows.
